Johnny Appleseed

There are 2 dates that celebrate Johnny Appleseed. One is on September 26 because he was born on September 26, 1774, and the other is on March 11 because he is thought to have died on March 11, 1845. His real name was John Chapman, and he was a nurseryman, a missionary and a conservationist. He began planting apple trees in New York and Pennsyvsania, but he wanted to move west. So as he moved west, he planted apple trees all along the way. He was very kind and generous, and protected animals as well as trees be cause he was a leader in conservation. Conservation is a movement to protect nature.
