National Thriftshop Day!

Today, August 17th, is National Thriftshop Day! There is no information on why August 17th is National Thriftshop Day, but I do know that one of the first thrift stores was set up in 1899 by the Wolverhampton Society for the Blind. This was a charity shop that sold things made by blind people as a way to raise money for the Society. The idea of having discount stores did not take off until the Red Cross began opening gift shops in the 1940s, and the money that came in was used to help injured soldiers during World War 2. Today, thriftshops sell goods at discounted prices, and they are known as discount department stores or dollar stores. So watch for extra discounts today, and if you are a store owner, create a sale dedicated to this day! I love a good deal. Have you ever found a steal deal? A deal so amazing it was a steal! Let us know!
