Moon Day Monday! July 20th is Moon Day because July 20, 1969 was when the first man walked on the moon, and this year Moon Day is a on a Monday! President John F. Kennedy created the Apollo Space program because he wanted to put a man on the moon. Apollo 11 lifted Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin off the earth’s surface on July 16th at 1:32 in the afternoon, and 4 days later, their spacecraft called the “Eagle” landed on the moon. A few hours after landing, Commander Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon’s surface and said, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

The first meal the astronauts ate on the moon was bacon cubes, peaches, sugar cookie cubes, pineapple grapefruit drink and coffee. Enjoy Moon Day by watching Apollo 13 or another movie about space or space flights. You can also fix a meal or snack of bacon, peaches, sugar cookies and a pineapple grapefruit drink like the first astronauts on the moon ate. Let us know how you are going to celebrate today. We want to know!
