Water! Water! Water!

Today is Dyngus Day, also spelled Dingus Day, a fun Polish holiday after the long lent season where boys chase girls and get them wet. It is also called Wet Easter Monday, but I’m not writing on that again. I am going to write about what it made me think of, water! We need to be drinking more water now that the weather is warming up!

People used to say we needed to drink 8 ounces of water every day, but that is now changing. Doctors and nutritionalists are now saying that the amount of water each person needs depends on their size, weight, activity level and where they live. For the most part, every day each person should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound they weigh. For example, if a person weighs 150 pounds, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day. If a person lives in a hot climate and exercises a lot, they will need closer to 150 ounces of water every day. But if they are living in a cooler climate and are rarely active, then they need less water. Either way, drink up!
