The First Speaker of the First U.S. House of Representatives

rederick Augustus Conrad Muhlenberg was a pastor who had also been a member of the Continental Congress from 1779 to 1780. Then from 1780 to 1783, he became the speaker of Pennsylvania's House of Representatives, and 4 years later he became the president of the Pennsylvania convention to agree to and support the U.S. Constitution. On April 1st, 1789, Muhlenberg was voted on to be the first speaker of the first U.S. House of Representatives. The U.S. House of Representatives met in New York City until they made Washington D.C. their real home for good
