What a day to be celebrating! Chaos Never Dies Day is always on November 9th, which is today. To be honest, I do not enjoy or work well with chaos, even though I am in the middle of it most of the time, so taking a day to celebrate it is funny to me. Chaos Never Dies Day is a day to celebrate the craziness of every day life. There is always something happening or an unexpected twist to one or more parts of our day. Just when we think things are calming down, something always seems to come along that disrupts everything. For a lot of people, chaos is everywhere because schedules change, plans shift, unexpected tasks come up, and on and on.

So, since today is Chaos Never Dies Day, you can celebrate today by putting a little order back into your life – choose one thing in your life that is disruptive and change it for the good! What is one thing in your life that you are going to put in order? Let us know, and have a calm and peaceful Chaos Never Dies Day!

This caught my interest because I know that November 1st is All Saint’s Day. All Saint’s Day is a Christian holiday that honors and celebrates all of the saints of the christian church. There are over 10,000 recognized saints, and many of these saints were killed because they believed in God. November 2nd, today, is All Soul’s Day! So what is this all about? All Soul’s Day is a Christian holiday that began in 998. It began as a day to pray for the souls of loved ones to be received into heaven. Some people believe that people’s souls need to be cleansed once they have died, so praying for the souls of loved ones helps to take away their sin, which opens the way for them to get into haven. All Soul’s Day is a day to remember the loved ones who have died and are now in heaven.

So what is National Mincemeat Day all about? National Mincemeat Day is on October 26th, and it is a day that celebrates a sweet and tasty meat treat. Mincemeat goes all the way back to medieval times when people mixed fruit with meat as a way to help the meat and other food last longer. It was a mixture of chopped meats (usually beef), suet (hard white fat from the meat), and fruits like pears raisins, apples, and It was often eaten as a sweet treat. However, mincemeat became less well known during the last half of the 1900’s as refrigeration became the way people keep their food from going bad. This is why a whole generation, even two generations, have grown up not knowing about mincemeat. Today, mincemeat is best known and served as mince meat pie, a pie with little or no meat. Mince meat pie is mostly fruit and is still a traditional Thanksgiving pie in many households.

Today is October 19th, which means it is Evaluate Your Life Day! So what does that mean exactly? It can sound scary. What if you evaluate your life and do not like what you find? Well, that just means that there are positive changes you can make! This is a day to stop and reflect on (think about) our lives, where we have been and where we are going. What are the things that are going well? What is bothering you? What would you like to change? Do you want to lose weight? Maybe start making healthier choices? I want to be as organized at home as I am at work! How is your life going? We want to know!

October marks the end of the harvest season for farmers, and October 12th became the most common date that people celebrated Farmers Day way back in the mid 1800s. So today, October 12th, is Old Farmers Day! Farming goes back to the very beginning of our American culture when the early settlers cleared fields and forests to farm the land. They brought seeds with them and found new seeds here as well as new farming methods, like planting seeds in hills, or mounds, in the soil.

A farmers’ work is long and hard. Farmers usually begin preparing the soil in March, then in April and May the fields are planted with seeds. The seeds sprout, and some crops are ready to be harvested after a month while other crops are not ready to be harvested until September or October. There is no guarantee of a good crop since bugs, animals, weather, diseases and other problems can hurt or kill the growing crop. Farmers give their all to raise good crops for us to benefit from. So take today to celebrate the farming community and their contributions to our health and wellbeing, our value system and society as a whole!

Teachers play a vital role in society as a whole because they have the ability to impact children and young adults. For this reason, they deserve a little recognition and a day to celebrate and honor them! That day is today, October 5th! In 1966, a UNESCO and the International Labour Organization held a conference on October 5th where they set up a special recommendation on Teachers. They used the date of this event to be the date to honor and recognize teachers around the world. However, it wasn’t until the 1993 International Conference on Education in Geneva that “World Teachers’ Day” gained its title by the Director-General of UNESCO, Federico Mayor.

Sometimes teachers influence children’s lives more than anyone else. They shape the hearts and minds of children and young adults through what they teach as well as through the relationships they develop with them. Teachers also have a great impact on shaping the beliefs, values, and behaviors of those students they have built relationships with. So find those teachers who impacted you the most and celebrate them today by encouraging them and letting them know what they did for you!

If you are a teacher, Happy World Teacher Day!

I love today! It is September 28, which is National Good Neighbor Day! I love this day because I have such awesome neighbors. Being a good neighbor is an important part in the social network needed to make life run smoothly, so it is good to have a day to celebrate good neighbors! National Good Neighbor Day is not a day to promote sales or a cause, it is a day to celebrate and honor the good neighbors around us.

In the early 1970s, Mrs. Becky Mattson from Lakeside Montana saw the importance of having good neighbors, so she set to work to set aside a national holiday for celebrating good neighbors. Congressman Mike Mansfield helped her to have presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter as well as many governors announce a Good Neighbor Day. National Good Neighbor Day was celebrated on the 4th Sunday of September until the Senate made September 28th National Good Neighbor Day in 2003. So take today to celebrate your good neighbors, or get to know them if you never have!

September 21st is World Gratitude Day! (That’s today!) World Gratitude Day is our chance to show our gratitude, or how thankful we are for the great things that people and groups do. The United Nations Meditation Group made World Gratitude Day to give “an award to someone who we feel has done something outstanding in the spirit of Globalism.” (http://www.srichinmoylibrary.com/sm-13) They also say that we should use this day to find something to be thankful for and enjoy the feeling! World Gratitude Day began in 1965 when the International East-West Center in Hawaii was celebrating a Thanksgiving Dinner together. During the dinner, everyone decided to go home and make September 21st World Gratitude Day in their home countries. This has become an annual event.

We can celebrate this fun day on a smaller level by thanking the people in our lives for the wonderful things they do. Thanking someone can be done with a simple “Thank you!” or by giving them a card to say thank you. Who are you thankful for and why? Let us know!

I really love being healthy, but I also love cream filled donuts! Today is the sweet day of September 14th, also known as National Cream Filled Donuts Day! Even though everyone is watching their weight, having a day like today to celebrate is a fun way to take a bit of a break and enjoy a tasty treat. If you have to watch your sugar levels, then be careful but still try to find a way to enjoy this yummy treat. No one knows how this day hopped on to the calendar of celebrated days, but I am glad it did! I will definitely be celebrating it because cream filled donuts are my favorite donut! Most people like chocolate cream and vanilla cream. What is your favorite cream? We want to know!

September is Classical Music Month! I was brought up to value and appreciate classical music, so I thought I would write about it since this is the month set aside to learn more about it. The classical music idea began in the 500s in the form of Gregorian Chants and Organum (singing a melody at different pitches at the same time). During this early period, classical music was very connected to the church, and it stayed this way until the 1400s when the Renaissance time began. For the next 200 years of the Renaissance era, music was not as connected to the church, so new ideas began to take music into a different direction. This new direction brought about new instruments and instrumental music. The invention of the printing press during this time allowed music to be printed and shared.

The Baroque period (1600-1750) brought us the concerto, canata, oratorio, and the sonata as well as composers like Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. The Classical period (1750-1820) added the woodwind section to the orchestra, and composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Hayden used this new section as they wrote their symphonies. Then during the last period of classical music, the Romantic period (1820-1910), music was more expressive and emotional as the brass and woodwind sections of the orchestra grew with music of Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Brahams.

So take today to play some classical music by your favorite composer. I especially enjoy Beethoven’s music. Do you enjoy classical music? Who is your favorite composer? Let us know!
