It is finally cooling off, and this means means the weather is nicer for hiking and camp outs! Maybe this is why this last day in August is Trail Mix Day, a day to celebrate trail mix! Trail mix is a yummy energy-boosting snack that was made to take on the trail, and it is also a great snack to have for camp outs or for when you are on-the-go. It provides you with the energy boost you need to keep from getting tired and running out of energy.
So how do you make trail mix? I like what some of the Boy Scouts do: they have everyone bring a bag or box of their favorite unsalted nuts, cereal, dried fruit, pretzels, M&Ms, etc. They make sure that the newcomers do not bring anything sticky or goopy or salty. Then they pour everything into a big bowl of bag, mix it all together and pour it into sealable sandwich bags. What kind of trail mix do you like?
