This caught my attention, and i found it very interesting because I love history! Vesuvius Day is always on August 24th, since it was on August 24, 79 AD Mount Vesuvius erupted in a huge explosion that marked history. Mount Vesuvius’ explosion was one of the biggest explosions ever recorded in history. According to some sources, 16,000 people died from the flying rocks, ash, and flowing lava, and it is thought that there was only one eye witness, Pliny the Younger. He was 18 years old at the time and watched the eruption from across the bay at Misenum. The volcanic activity lasted 2 days, destroying the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae plus the surrounding towns and villages. Pliny’s uncle died while he was pulling people from the rock and ash. Mount Vesuvius erupted again in 1631, killing about 3,500 people.
