As we are coming to the end of summer, celebrating a Watermelon Day is very appropriate! National Watermelon Day is today, August 3rd. These large fruits are a summer favorite because they are tasty and sweet, and they are often found at picnics and pool parties. Watermelons are 90% water, which makes them a great fruit to eat on hot dry days. Their seeds provide any picnic or pool party with an opportunity to have a fun seed spitting contest.
Years ago, it was discovered that you could grow a watermelon in a square box in order to make it have flat sides, and this makes it easier to store in the refrigerator! Who knew?! Have you ever seen or had a square watermelon? Let us know!
