Wellcat.com decided that today, August 18th, should be Bad Poetry Day. They wanted today to be a day to write some really bad poetry. Maybe the reason to have Bad Poetry Day is just “because you can”, or maybe it is to help us to appreciate good poetry better. They also wanted it to be a day for getting together with old friends to write some really bad poetry. Then they said the poetry should be sent to an old high school teacher. I’m not so sure about that idea, but here is a poem they said is dedicated to you, the reader:
So, you’re a poet
But you don’t know it.
Try writing some verse
But, don’t be terse.
After it’s writ,
It will read like……….
Some think Walt Whitman must be turning in his grave at the idea of having a “Bad Poetry Day”. I like poetry, and Robert Frost is my favorite poet because he writes about nature and other beautiful things in life. So I prefer to call today Poetry Day, a day to write good or bad poetry!
