From Halloween to New Years, there is usually not a shortage of yummy food or sweets. Usually holiday foods are full of the bad fats, sugar and refined carbohydrates and have very little of the good fats, protein, fiber or vitamins and minerals. It is not a bad things to eat theses holiday fun yummy foods, but we need to do it carefully and in moderation in order to keep our blood sugar from spiking. Moderation means 1 or 2 sweet things in between healthy meals and snacks of protein, vegetables and fruits.
With all of this sugar, we really need to make sure that we are eating our daily protein amount because protein slows down the break down of sugar into our blood. Everyone should be eating at least .37 X his her weight = grams of protein needed every day. So if you weigh 148 pounds, then .37 X 148 = 55 grams. You need to eat 55 grams of protein every day if you weigh 148 pounds! We need to enjoy the fun foods while being nice to our bodies! Or even better, find fun yummy holiday foods that are healthy!!
