Do you remember where you were that day, the morning of September 11, 2001? I was in college and had stopped my father-in-law’s office that morning. We sat quietly in shock and confusion. The war on terrorism had hit our country and changed our lives forever.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 Islamic al-Qaeda soldiers took over four planes that were going on long distance flights, so they had more fuel in their tanks. At 8:45 AM, the first plane hit the north building of the New York World Trade Center, putting a hole in the 80th floor. Then 18 minutes later, the second plane hit the 60th floor of the south building. The planes and the firestorm brought down both towers. At 9:45 AM, an hour after the first plane hit the north tower, the third plane hit the west side of the Pentagon military headquarters in Washington D.C.
The fourth plane that these Islamic al-Qaeda soldiers had taken over did not hit any buildings because the crew and the passengers found out about the first 3 planes. The people on the plane tried to take back control of the plane from the suicidal the hijackers, but at 10:10 AM it crashed in a field in Shanksville, PA. Everyone on the plane died. In total, thousands were killed.
Total 911 Deaths: 2977
Victims in the towers: 2606
Pentagon victims: 125
4th plane, crashed in PA: 40
# Militants: 19
Deaths included Americans and citizens from many other countries. Today is a day to remember and pray for all those who lost loved ones on this horrible day.
