Juvenile arthritis happens when the body’s immune system is not working like it should. The immune system stops recognizing healthy body tissue and tries to destroy it instead. Children and young adults with juvenile arthritis have symptoms like excruciating pain and inflammation in the joints. In the more severe cases, children have uneven growth or physical disabilities.
The physical pain and struggles are hard enough without the social and emotional toll on these children because of it all. The pain can keep these children from being able to do normal childhood activities, like sports. It can also keep these and young adults with juvenile arthritis from easily doing things like buttoning clothing and carrying books to school. Do you know anyone who has juvenile arthritis?
