Adventures in Business (AIB) is a program of the We Care A Lot Foundation that began in 2006. It serves people with developmental disabilities in the nine county catchment area of Far Northern Regional Center (FNRC). The Adventures in Business Program provides supports that enable an adult with developmental disabilities to be self-employed. These supports include employing a business mentor to mentor the business owner on how to start and run a successful micro business.
The ultimate goal is for the business owners to have meaningful work that they are proud of and to make enough money to make a positive difference in their lives. We also hope that people in the community will meet these business owners and change their perceptions of people with developmental disabilities.
Currently, there are seven micro businesses:
- Rebekah Amick “Art Life“
- BJ Christenson “BJ’s Art Studio”
- T. Frank Smith “TF Smith Photography”
- Coby Walters “Pine Meadow Photography”
- Naomi Rose “Artwork by Naomi Rose”
- Dyvonne Washington “Flowers for You”
- David Plant’s Folk Art
