U.S. Coast Guard Day is a very important day to many people. It is celebrated on August 4th. U.S. Coast Guard Day is important because it honors the military part that protects our waters and shorelines. Why is U.S. Coast Guard Day celebrated on August 4th? On August 4, 1790, the U.S. Congress. Congress developed the Revenue Cutter Service, a fleet of 10 cutters, or ships. These ships were built to make sure that the U.S. tariff laws were obeyed. The Revenue Cutter Service was renamed “Coast Guard” in 1915.
It is sad to say that the U.S. Defense Department notes that this day is mostly only celebrated by the Coast Guard personnel and their families. So, I want to encourage everyone to honor the brave members of this essential part of the military.
