National Columnists Day

National Columnist Day is always June 23rd! So what is a columnist? A columnist is a person who writes for a newspaper, and as we know, newspapers print their articles in columns! This is why someone who writes for a newspaper is called a columnist. National Columnists Day was set up by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists to celebrate those who write articles for newspapers.

Ernie Pyle was a columnist who wrote about the soldiers in the first World War, and in 1928, he became the country’s first aviation (airplane) columnist. He knew Amelia Earhart. The National Society of Newspaper Columnists created this day to honor the memory of Ernie Pyle who was killed in World War II.
