Countries have been fighting for their independence since the world began. We won our independence from Britain on July 4, 1776. Freedom always comes with a price, and the price is often people dying for what they believe in. On this day, April 10, 1941, Croatia began its fight to become an independent country. Many people died, and by 1944, all of Croatia was free from the Axis forces that had been controlling them. This happened during World War II, which ended in 1945. Once Croatia became free, the country began a new form of government that gave more freedom to its people.
