All Saint’s Day

What is All Saint’s Day? All Saint’s Day was was a celebration of the saints of the past. It was celebrated in May until the mid 700s AD, when it was moved to November 1st. Catholics celebrated those who were killed for their faith. Protestants saw that “saints” included all Christian believers, so they celebrated all believers on All Saint’s Day. This day was traditionally celebrated by offering flowers and prayers, lighting candles, cleaning and repairing the graves of relatives. Now, however, some people, such as those from the Philippines, who celebrate All Saint’s Day picnic and hold reunions at the cemetery near their loved ones. Some sing, bring musical instruments and Karaoke TV sets, and even burst fire crackers. Northern European tradition is to light candles, and they also visit the graves of their relatives.
