He also said that it should be celebrated “with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

John Adams became the 2nd president of the United States and Thomas Jefferson, Adams” vice president, became the 3rd president. Also, both Adams and Jefferson died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration.
