Annular means ring. An annular solar eclipse is when the moon moves directly in front of the sun, so that the sun looks dark with a “ring” of bright rays around it. This year's annular solar eclipse happened last night, May 20th, between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

This is an exciting event, however, it is very very important to observe solar eclipses safely. It is important to wear glasses specifically made for looking at the sun, No. 14 welders glasses, or find a museum or observatory that is planning to watch the eclipse. Sun damage to your eyes may not be painful right away, so just because you can look up into the sun without feeling pain doesn't mean it's safe. Always wear proper glasses when looking at the sun.
